I have been hearing about it for a day or two. "Valenas, are you going to participate in the strike? You have a full tank of Dolphins and Gaia is taking all of the money that you put into that."
I am not sure what the strike is even about. So, I used Gaia's nifty search feature and after jumping through a few threads I came across this petition.
From what I can gather, the users are upset because:
- Gaia reduced the frequency of glows per tank per day.
- You are limited to what you can grab per game. If you happen to reach the amount the game stops even if time is still left on the clock (this has happened a while back but I guess recent events have dug it up and/or the users are still upset).
Booty Grab, as with any feature, has simply been tweaked over time. You are not going to create a game that impacts the community (costs in gold/money to stock the tank, as well as the earnings from playing the game/owning the tank) without having to tweak it in places.
So they are protesting. What are they proposing that users do?
- Put all of their fish into Barrett's tank. Not only are they doing this as a symbol of their strike, but to keep their fish from aging until, they hope, their complaints are addressed and fixed. Apparently they are doing this for only a week.
- Stop buying Gaia Cash. They hope that if they stop sending in money to support Gaia, Gaia will take them more seriously. They are encouraging everybody to do this to create a greater impact.
- Put banners in your signature and bitch about Gaia all over the site. That may not be on your list but that is what you are doing.
I find that I could care less about this strike, and I only see it as a way for those who are not participating to get ahead. I am still going to play a tank when I come across it (I do not know if that is part of the strike but if they want to do it right it should be). I am going to leave my seventeen dolphin tank out there for everybody to grab. With empty tanks there will be less glowing threads to bump up and more time for my thread to remain on the first page. If I had money to spare this month I would also be donating to the site. With less users spending money, I would like to think that cash shop and aquarium items would be (temporarily) inflating due to becoming harder to come by. If you strikers happen to solve something, good for you.
I keep removing entries. I read over them, get annoyed with myself, and delete them all.
What am I currently doing in my life?
I got a 2009 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited X. I will be paying it off for the next five and a half years. As a result, I have requested more hours at work, which will be easy to get in March if a co-worker leaves with her husband. He may be getting shipped overseas by then. I have also put my name in to be able to housesit/petsit.
Going to be busy. Growing up.
Ugh.
